About Us
Bartlett Area Chamber has partnered with Gentry Development Group to launch OppCity.com, a free virtual talent community that fills a need in the business community by connecting people seeking work and education opportunities with employers and schools in the area. Oppcity.com highlights the Memphis Metropolitan Area as an “Opportunity City”. The main function of the site is a sophisticated recruiting platform created to meet the growing need for connecting people interested in work or education in the community with the organizations that have the opportunities available.
OppCity.com provides members with job search capabilities, career development, educational opportunities, and access to events taking place in the community.
For businesses, OppCity.com provides a pool of talented professionals who are already active in the local community. Businesses and organizations can post job opportunities and search profiles of people in the Memphis metropolitan area. Finally, the team behind OppCity will provide a central place for people to post opportunities for learning or collaborating on business and academic programs.
“The ultimate goal of OppCity is to showcase the talent we have and to make it as easy as possible for organizations to access it,” said John Threadgill, president of the Bartlett Area Chamber. “OppCity will help us to encourage businesses to locate here, because it aggregates the talent we have in our area by profession. When making the decision to relocate or start a business, they will be able to see how many people we have in each job classification to meet their needs,” said Clay Banks, Director of Economic Development for the Bartlett Area Chamber.
“We also wanted to have a site that shows our area as a great place to build one’s career,” added John. The OppCity team feels strongly that a focused talent bank and organized educational program site will greatly improve the way that people connect with opportunities. OppCity also sponsors live program opportunities, and training events for individual members and Chamber members.
Funding for the initial building of the site came from Brother, based in Bartlett.
